KUCHING: Borneo Highland Orchard has begun producing button mushrooms at its cultivation facility in Sarawak, with output exceeding 2,300 kilogrammes (kg) within a three-month growing cycle.
Eco Farm Solutions Sdn Bhd’s Manager, Izzy Ng, said the mushroom cultivation plant started operations in December last year.
She said the facility is currently the only mushroom cultivation plant developed and owned by Borneo Highland Orchard in the state.
Ng told the media this when met at the Borneo Highland Orchard mushroom facility at the Green Breeder headquarters here today.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, was also present as part of a working visit.
Ng said the mushrooms are currently supplied to selected outlets in Kuching and Sibu.
She added that distribution remains limited to maintain freshness and quality of the produce.
“Our current supply to outlets such as Emart, Choice and selected pork specialty shops is about 10 kg per month,” she said.
She explained that the mushrooms must be stored at temperatures below 4 degrees Celsius to maintain freshness.
“They can last up to seven days if kept under proper storage conditions,” she added.
