BAU: Areas in Musi and Buso are expected to undergo rapid development upon the completion of the ongoing Musi–Buso road upgrading project, which will significantly improve connectivity and open up new economic opportunities for local communities.

Deputy Minister for Transport (Rivers and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, said the upgraded road would act as a key catalyst for growth, particularly the surrounding rural areas in Musi and Buso.

According to him, most of the lands in Musi and Buso are in the mixed-zone areas which could expedite the pace of development.

“Now, Bau Town is becoming too congested. What I have said just now, traffic jam is almost every day.

“So we have to decentralise, where we can see the development of new township in Musi and Buso, which are closer to Batu Kitang and Kuching,” he said after the handing over of land compensation cheques at Musi Community Hall here today.

A total of 88 landowners, whose land were acquired to give way to the implementation of the project received their cheque under the first phase payment disbursement.

The Tasik Biru assemblyman said both Musi and Buso are very close to Bau have great potential to be developed into another township in the near future.

“The moment we have this accessibility, the connectivity is very near. So sooner or later, the development will definitely encroach in. You cannot avoid all these.

“Be it residential, be it commercial, it could be light industrial we do not know. But I believe in our Bau Master plan we have these to cater for, areas that may have development like housings and so on. It is in our Master Plan,” he said.

Henry believed that with better road connectivity, Musi, Buso, and Bau district as a whole, will experience faster development.

He noted that the Musi-Buso road upgrading project would not only improve accessibility but also stimulate economic activities, attract investment and enhance the quality of life of the people.

The road upgrading works will include widening of the existing carriageway, improved drainage systems, construction of bridges and enhanced road safety features.

Once completed, the road is expected to serve as an important development corridor linking Musi, Buso, Bau and Kuching more efficiently.
