KUCHING: A father figure, that’s what the late Senate president Datuk Mutang Tagal was to me, said Datuk Willie Mongin.
The Puncak Borneo MP said that Mutang always provided advice to him, and they often exchanged thoughts on national politics and the development of the country, particularly Sarawak.
“Feeling a sense of sadness and melancholy upon receiving news of his passing. Deepest condolences to the family of the late YB Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday (May 10).

Meanwhile, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen described the passing of Mutang as tragic news and expressed his dismay over not being able to meet Mutang as they had promised.
“I still remember how just recently he asked me to have coffee with him. I said we must find that time. However, we didn’t manage to.”
Yii described Mutang as a good man and a role model to his community.
“Condolences to the family and loved ones. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord,” he said.
Mutang, 70, passed away on Friday (May 10) at 11.46am at the National Heart Institute, Kuala Lumpur.
He had been undergoing treatment at the heart institute after falling ill during a working trip to Azerbaijan on May 6.
