DARO: The Sarawak government has introduced an updated version of the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN), providing enhanced facilities for local communities particularly in rural areas.
Utility and Telecommunications Minister, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the programme is part of the state government’s initiative to enhance communication access and integrate remote areas into the nation’s digital development mainstream.
“The upgraded MySRBN has received an overwhelming response, with membership registrations increasing to 431 in a short time, and the number continues to grow.
“This programme leverages smart towers developed by the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and collaborates with various entities, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to ensure MySRBN facilities will also be available at Jendela towers in the future,” he said.
He said this during a press conference after the launching of the New MySRBN Coverage in Pulau Bruit, here today.
During the event, he also witnessed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange between SDEC and U Mobile.
Meanwhile, Julaihi added that the Sarawak government has allocated RM2.3 billion to develop the Program Saluran which includes the construction of 618 towers statewide, supplemented with an additional 18 towers to expand coverage in remote areas.
He said that through this initiative, the actual monthly access cost for MySRBN services has been reduced from RM70 to RM20, with the remainder subsidised by the government.
“Beyond facilitating better communication, MySRBN also aims to enhance rural residents’ participation in the digital economy, particularly in online businesses.
“Local products such as Sos Unjur and Belawai Songket can now be marketed more widely through digital transactions, creating more opportunities for SMEs in Sarawak to grow and reach larger markets,” he said.
