
MIRI: A barge laden with metal scraps was found grounded at the shore near Tukau here yesterday. The owner of the barge, which was about 100 metres long and 25 metres wide, is unknown.
The ropes connecting the barge and a towing boat were believed to have been broken after being hit by big waves and strong winds which had occurred in the sea off Miri in the past three days. A resident, Jong, 38, said the barge was first seen adrift near Luak Esplanade.
He said he found the barge grounded at the shore near Tukau whiel passing by at about 7am yesterday. “The barge has the words and numbers PALLADIUM22 written on it,” he added.
Meanwhile, another barge, with no cargoes, has been found grounded at Tanjong Lobang beach since last Tuesday.It has attracted a big crowd to the beach. A spokesman said the police had not received any reports on missing barges so far.
