BANGKOK: National men’s doubles coach Herry Iman Pierngadi admits Malaysia face a major challenge as they prepare to take on Indonesia in the final tomorrow (Dec 10).
He said that despite the team’s strong form, the pressure remains high, especially after their 3-1 win over Thailand in the semi-finals.
“Malaysia’s main strength is clearly in men’s doubles. From the start until now, our pairs have shown solid performances, but the pressure is still there.
“Indonesia, on the other hand, are balanced across both singles and doubles. But in competition, anything can happen,” he told reporters after the national men’s team wrapped up their match at Thammasat University’s Rangsit Campus in Pathum Thani on Monday (Dec 8)
Herry stressed that focus and composure on court will be critical.
“Players must stay locked into the game plan, not the scoreboard. If they can control the match flow, they can handle the pressure,” he said.
Malaysia now turn their attention to the final against Indonesia, with hopes of securing gold in the men’s team badminton event at this SEA Games. – TVS
