SIBU: The National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance And Family Takaful Advisors (NAMLIFA) has come a long way, 47 years since it was formed in 1978, for the purpose of addressing issues pertaining to the interests of the Tied Agency Channel (TAC) and to help elevate the status of the agency force through education.

Highlighting this, its national president, Krishnan Appanu, said the focus never changed.

“For the benefit of the current generation of members, I wish to share with you NAMLIFA’s role in the life insurance industry.

“Firstly, we represent the interests of the TAC and consumers. Secondly, we provide the necessary education to support the relevance and help elevate the professionalism of the TAC.

“The CLPM, FCLP and the FChFP programmes are as examples.

“Thirdly, we provide the best platform for recognition and industry awards through the Akard Awards for our members,” he said at the NAMLIFA Sibu Branch’s 29th annual general meeting recently.

Along with these three pillars, Krishnan pointed out that NAMLIFA today is also contributing to the welfare of its members through specially arranged Mutiara Plus Group Takaful coverage, Group PA and Professional Indemnity coverage with attractive premium rates.

He hoped that NAMLIFA Sibu will reach out to members for these.

Stressing that the CLPM is one of the mandatory PITA programme, he urged the leadership of the NAMLIFA Sibu to promote and conduct the CLPM programme regularly.

“As the TAC is the biggest contributor to the new business of life insurance, we ought to ensure that our benefits can make us sustain in the business. For that, we’re soon to pursue engagement with Bank Negara to seek enhancement to the OCC Guideline that was introduced in 1996.

“Meanwhile, I believe that you have been updated on all our initiatives on the Medical insurance repricing issues. We have lots of work pending, especially in following up with Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Health on the direction of the healthcare industry.”

Krishnan also urged NAMLIFA Sibu to double the effort in increasing their membership count, bringing in young blood to their committee and Sub Committees.

Earlier on, NAMLIFA Sibu chairman Rali Wong encouraged the local insurance agents to equip themselves with skills and knowledge and have to meet the customers’ expectation from time to time.

He reminded the  members to help to recruit more agents to join the big family of NAMLIFA.
