KUCHING: Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has urged the public to be brave in taking a stand against all forms of sexual harassment, following a viral incident involving a 15-year-old girl and an e-hailing driver.
The video, which made rounds on social media, shows the driver allegedly asking the teenager to remove her headscarf during the ride home — an act widely condemned by netizens.
Nancy commended the swift action taken by the victim’s father, who insisted that the driver accompany him to a police station to lodge a report.
“This reflected growing awareness within the community about the seriousness of such offences.
“I have been informed that the case is now under police investigation.
“The public places full trust in the police to act fairly and swiftly in such matters,” she said in a statement today.
Highlighting that sexual harassment is not limited to physical contact, Nancy reminded the public — especially youths — not to remain silent when such incidents occur.
“You have the right to protect your safety and dignity.
“As a minister, I am committed to empowering justice through the full implementation of the Tribunal under the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022,” she added.
She also called on all segments of society — including parents, educators and colleagues — to work together in creating safer and
more respectful environments.
“Everyone must have the courage to speak up when witnessing or experiencing any form of harassment, particularly in protecting women and children,” she stressed.
