KUCHING: The Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) Sarawak branch elected its new executive committee for the 2025-2027 term today, with Nancy Nais appointed as chairwoman.
She takes over from Alice Wee, who has led the association since 2015, supported by Vice-Chairman, Aden Nagrace.
The new line-up also includes Dr Malia Taibi as secretary and Angeline Lim as assistant secretary, while Bong Siak Boon retained his position as treasurer and Ronnie Teo was named assistant treasurer.
Committee members for the new term are Alice Wee, Caroline Jackson, Chang Lee Fong, Francis Chan, Jack Wong, Letitia Samuel and Adeline Liong.
Liu Chin Sui was appointed as auditor.
In her acceptance speech, Nancy expressed her appreciation to Alice for her leadership and guidance, pledging to continue strengthening the association’s role in promoting ethical reporting standards, professional development, and international collaboration.
“I want to sincerely thank Alice for her guidance, support and dedication.
“She has been an inspiration to many of us, and I hope to build upon the strong foundation she has laid, together with the rest of our exco members,” Nancy said.
She noted that the role of journalists is especially critical today, with unprecedented challenges, and stressed her commitment to support members while encouraging excellence in storytelling.
A familiar face in the CJA Sarawak leadership, Nancy previously served three consecutive terms as secretary since 2018, coordinating training programmes and public engagement activities.
She also emphasised that the branch will continue its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives as part of its commitment to community engagement.
Meanwhile, Alice, in her farewell remarks, extended her deepest gratitude to members for their steadfast support throughout her tenure.
“Over the past years, CJA Sarawak has not only successfully organised educational media workshops and training but also, in collaboration with the Kuching Division Journalist Association (KDJA), courageously hosted the Breaking News Run, which drew the participation of some 600 runners,” she said.
Alice hoped that members would continue to give their full support to the new executive committee for the advancement and betterment of CJA Sarawak.
