KUCHING: Laughter, music, and retro vibes filled the air as over 100 media practitioners attended the Sarawak Media Night with Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, at a grand hotel on Sunday night.

In her speech, Nancy highlighted the media’s crucial role in helping the government strengthen social policies and sharing stories of the people’s struggles.

“Tonight is not just about appreciation, but a symbol of the close relationship between the ministry and the Sarawak media, who have always been in touch with the people.

“The Sarawak media have long served as the eyes, ears, and voice of our society. Continue to tell stories that unite, because through your pens and lenses, love and humanity live on.

“Thank you to all members of the Sarawak media. You are not just journalists but also a part of the story of Malaysia’s social development,” she said during the event that was organised by her ministry in collaboration with the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA).

The evening atmosphere came alive as media personalities took to the stage to perform a variety of songs, with Fasiha Khushiri of the Sarawak Tribune delivering a heartfelt rendition of ‘Kamelia’ and ultimately winning the Best Performance award.

Dayana Rafiee from Suara Sarawak impressed with ‘Sinaran’ by Sheila Majid, while Josephine Karen from RTM energised the crowd with ‘Hari Bersamanya’ by Sheila on 7, and several other journalists performed songs ranging from Bobby Caldwell to Katy Perry.

Themed ‘Retro’, the evening also featured games, lucky draws, and a spread of delicious food, giving media practitioners a chance to reconnect beyond deadlines and press releases.
