KUCHING: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has warned the public against individuals impersonating her officers or representatives following a recent case involving a local non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Nancy said her office was informed that an NGO active in volunteer work had been contacted by a man claiming to be her “special personal aide”.

“I am quite surprised that lately, more and more people have been impersonating me or claiming to be a ‘Nancy Shukri officer’.

“I would like to stress that none of my current or former staff is named ‘Noor Akmal’,” she said in a Facebook post yesterday (Aug 18).

Nancy, who is the Santubong MP, said the man had asked the NGO to prepare a working paper and claimed that the document had to go through him before it could be submitted to her.

More worryingly, she said, the man also asked a female representative of the NGO to meet him privately inside a vehicle.

Nancy said the woman exercised caution and requested that any meeting be held in an open area instead.

As such, she advised the public to be vigilant when receiving calls or messages from anyone claiming to be her officer, staff member or representative.

She said any such claims could be verified directly with her office at 012-5075861.

“Do not be easily deceived. Make sure all official dealings are conducted through the proper channels,” she said.
