KAPIT: The RM4-million MADANI Adopted Village (KAM) project in Nanga Engkuah, Ulu Katibas, is expected to serve as a catalyst for wider rural development following its official handover this week.
Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the initiative carries meaningful impact for the people despite its modest physical scale.
“This project may not look big physically, but its value to the community is truly significant,” he said on his Facebook post today after attending the Works Ministry KAM handover ceremony.

He noted that implementation in Nanga Engkuah came with considerable challenges due to difficult terrain and transportation constraints.
“With river routes and logging roads as the only access, carrying out the project was never easy. But thanks to the commitment of all parties, we managed to bring it to completion,” he added.
Nanta said the KAM initiative was inspired by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, under the MADANI framework to uplift rural communities.
Initially funded at RM2.5 million, the project required additional allocations due to rising logistical costs.
“The extra funding had to be provided because of unavoidable circumstances, especially the high cost of logistics,” he explained.
He also stressed the importance of community participation in ensuring the sustainability of rural development.
“Success like this depends on the cooperation of the local community. Residents must work together and appreciate the efforts of leaders who continue to fight for progress in remote areas like Katibas,” he said.
As for future phases of KAM, Nanta said continuation of the programme will depend on federal approval.
“If the government agrees to proceed next year, we have already identified the areas and needs that should be prioritised,” he said.
He expressed hope that the project will bring meaningful improvements to village residents and strengthen development in Ulu Katibas.
“May this small but meaningful effort continue to bring new light to the people of Nanga Engkuah,” he added.
