KUCHING: The completion of the 96-metre-long Nanga Lasi Bridge, built at a contract cost of RM4.7 million, marks a new chapter for over 2,250 residents from six longhouses in Julau, providing them with permanent access to main roads and essential amenities.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the steel bridge not only shortens travel time but also offers a safer route that can be used year-round, unaffected by the rainy season or floods.

“With this bridge, residents now enjoy better connectivity to economic hubs, education, healthcare, and government services.

“This will enhance their quality of life and create greater economic opportunities,” he said in his speech at the launch of the bridge by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today.

He added that the project is part of the Sarawak Government’s ongoing commitment to inclusive rural development, ensuring that communities across the state have equal access to basic infrastructure.

Uggah said that the state remains committed to implementing strategic infrastructure projects that can spur socioeconomic growth, particularly in rural areas that have long faced challenges in accessibility and connectivity.

“This bridge is tangible proof of the state government’s pledge to develop rural areas being translated into action.

“We want every Sarawakian, regardless of location, to have access to modern facilities and equal economic opportunities,” he said.
