KAPIT: A total of RM654,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds was disbursed to 40 associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) within the Kapit parliamentary constituency today.

Kapit Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the disbursement of funds reflects the responsibility of elected representatives in safeguarding the welfare of the communities they serve.

“Therefore, I hope that the funds received will be used prudently and bring a positive impact to the local community,” he said in his speech at the Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund presentation ceremony held at a hotel here today.

Nanta, who is also Works Minister, noted that procedures for applying for and disbursing government grants must be followed to ensure good governance in the management of public funds.

He stressed that adhering to procedures is not meant to burden applicants but to ensure that the distribution of funds is done transparently and to prevent any misuse of public money, whether by the elected representatives or the recipients.

“Each grant application must be accompanied by an official letter from the association, NGO, or JKKK as a formal record.

“Recipients are also required to submit a brief report on how the funds are used, to be handed over to the Parliamentary Service Centre,” he added.

He added it is important to provide an explanation of the procedures involved in applying for and spending government funds.

“So, when the funds have been received, there is a proper method for submitting a report. There is no need for a detailed report – a simple one will suffice,” he added.
