KUCHING: Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi is awaiting a full police report after a man sustained minor injuries when his pick-up truck plunged into a ravine along Jalan Temalat, Song on Monday (May 12).
While no fatalities were reported, the federal Works Minister said he had instructed the Public Works Department (JKR) to install more warning signs to alert motorists of the road conditions.
“As far as I’m concerned, the area has experienced landslides since last January, during the rainy season,” he said.
“I personally visited the site and held a meeting with relevant parties at the Song District Office a month ago.
“I had strictly told JKR to install sufficient signage, especially for motorists unfamiliar with the area’s conditions, unlike the local residents who already know the terrain,” he added.
He said this during a press conference at the International Construction Week (ICW) 2025, officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Tuesday (May 13).
Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from the Song station were dispatched to the scene, about 14km away, following a distress call at 10.40pm.
They confirmed that a Toyota Hilux had veered off the road and fallen into a ravine.
The driver managed to exit the overturned vehicle before rescuers arrived. He sustained light injuries and was handed over to police to be transported to the nearest hospital for further treatment.
