KUCHING: A total of 46 individuals were arrested for various drug offences during a special four-day anti-narcotics operation conducted by the district police recently.
The arrests were made under Ops Tapis Khas Narkotik, carried out by the Kuching District Police Headquarters from November 17 to 20 as part of an ongoing efforts to curb drug distribution and abuse in the city.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspects were detained for offences under several provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Two suspects were arrested under Section 39B, two under Section 39A(1), five under Section 12(2) while 37 others were picked up under Section 15(1)(a). Out of the 37, five were also charged under Section 39C for repeated drug use,” he said in a statement today.
The operation also led to the seizure of 1,067.25 grammes of methamphetamine and 12 grammes of psychotropic pills, worth an estimated RM41,145.
All suspects have been brought to the Kuching Court and charged accordingly.
Alexson said the success of the operation was the result of continuous intelligence efforts and strong cooperation from members of the public.
“PDRM will not compromise with any party involved in drug distribution. Possessing, distributing or protecting drug activities is a serious offence under the law,” he stated.
He added that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) remains committed to combating drugs and protecting future generations.
