LOS ANGELES, California, United States (US): NASA astronaut, Anil Menon, and the European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut, Sophie Adenot, began a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS) to replace a Space-to-Ground communications antenna, reported Xinhua.

The extravehicular activity (EVA) began at 8:29 am Eastern Time (12:29 GMT) on Tuesday (Aug. 18) and was still underway, with the operations expected to last about six and a half hours, according to NASA.

The spacewalk can be watched online at: https://www.nasa.gov/live.

The antenna is a critical link used by NASA to transmit data, enabling high-speed communications between the Mission Control Centre in Houston and the ISS.

The operations marked Menon’s second spacewall and Adenot’s first. It was the 282nd spacewalk in support of space station assembly, maintenance and upgrades, according to NASA. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
