WASHINGTON: Nashville’s international airport could be renamed after country music icon Dolly Parton under a proposal announced on Friday by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and the airport following her death, reported Geman news agency dpa.

The initiative to rename Nashville International Airport (BNA) aims to create a “lasting tribute to her indelible legacy” according to a statement from the governor’s office and the airport. Parton had inspired generations of people in Tennessee and around the world, it said.

“At a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that BNA would bear Dolly Parton’s name,” Lee said in a post on X.

Parton, who was born in Tennessee in 1946, moved to Nashville in 1964 and began her career as a songwriter and musician. She went on to become one of the best-known figures in country music.

Parton died peacefully in Nashville at the age of 80 on Tuesday, according to her agency. -BERNAMA-dpa
