KUCHING: Nation-building is not merely the government’s responsibility, but requires the active involvement of the people across various sectors.

Political Secretary to the Premier, Kho Teck Wan, said the concept of nation-building in Sarawak must be understood in a broader context and not be limited to innovation achievements alone.

She said nation-building is not solely about creating technology or advancing artificial intelligence (AI) but rather it begins with the courage of the people to share Sarawak’s values and uniqueness with the world.

“Nation-building is about how we project Sarawak’s values to the world.

“It is not just the  government’s responsibility, but requires the active involvement of the people across various sectors.

“Every individual, including industry players such as those in the property sector, must challenge themselves by enhancing their skills and the quality of their work to become the best examples in their respective industries,” she explained.

As such, she said industry players like SHEDA play an important role in shaping Sarawak’s society to continue progressing as a resilient and forward-looking state.

“Building homes also builds communities. It is not just about houses as structures, but about creating an environment that fosters a strong society.

“All of you are part of the nation-building effort because you are shaping communities that form the foundation of the state’s strength,” she said.

She added that the Sarawak Government is always open to receiving feedback and views from the public as well as industry players to ensure that policies and programmes remain relevant to current needs.

“We go down to the ground to ensure that what the government implements is relevant to you. Therefore, if there are matters you wish to raise, come forward and voice them,” she added.
