KUCHING: National archer Mohd Zullhannizam Mohamad Ali Bohan will don Sarawak colours at the Borneo Games 2025, bringing his experience and precision to the men’s barebow 50m event as the state looks to hit podium targets.

When met at the Sarawak Archery Arena recently, Zullhannizam said preparations have been on track, with training structured and well-prepared under the programme.

“Alhamdulillah, our training has been very good, following the schedule given. The coaches’ programme is solid and has kept us in good rhythm,” he said.

He added that the focus remains on strengthening both the technical and mental aspects of performance rather than observing or comparing with other teams.

“For now, we are concentrating on our own performance.

“Archery requires full focus on your own game, so we don’t really look at the technical side of others,” he said.

The 45-year-old archer noted that regular exposure to competitions, whether locally or outside Sarawak, is crucial for further improvement. Beyond the Borneo Games, he has already set his sights on the ASEAN-level tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

“After the Games here, the next target is likely the ASEAN competition in Kuala Lumpur.

“With the guidance of our experienced coaches, I believe we can strengthen our preparations and aim higher,” he added.

Zullhannizam, who hails from Sematan and has represented Malaysia at the national level, expressed confidence in delivering his best for Sarawak after two years of hiatus.

For the record, archery will be contested from Sept 25–28 at the Sarawak Archery Arena, with medals up for grabs in several categories, including barebow, recurve, and compound events.
