KUCHING: The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak received national recognition after being awarded the Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform (RKB) Certificate by Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC) at the Sarawak Public Service Day 2025 celebration.

The certificate was presented by the Chief Secretary to the Federal Government (KSN), Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, to the LPKP Sarawak Director, Cornelia Wong Chui, during the event held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Thursday.

The award highlights the remarkable success of LPKP Sarawak in implementing the RKB Project titled ‘Enhancing the Efficiency of the Goods Vehicle Licence Application Process for Entry into Sabah from 13 Days to Immediate Approval’.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring faster, more efficient licensing processes for the commercial transport sector,” LPKP Sarawak said in its statement today.

Previously, holders of Sarawak’s ‘A’ Carrier Licence operating into Sabah were required to obtain a letter of support from LPKP Sarawak before submitting it to LPKP Sabah.

The approval process typically took about 13 days and posed operational delays for transporters.

A similar requirement also applied to ‘A’ Carrier Licence holders from Sabah seeking entry into Sarawak.

“However, effective Jan 2, 2025, the requirement for a support letter between both states has been abolished, significantly reducing processing time and enhancing cross-border industry efficiency,” the statement added.

“Only applications involving entry into Brunei Darussalam still require a support letter.”

This reform marks a major step forward in improving licensing efficiency for the commercial vehicle transport industry.

By eliminating unnecessary administrative steps and accelerating approval times, the initiative supports greater operational flexibility and reduces logistical burdens for transport operators in both Sabah and Sarawak.

The recognition from MPC demonstrates the strong commitment of LPKP Sarawak to modernising its administrative processes in line with national productivity improvement efforts.

“The successful implementation of the RKB Project serves as an example of how strategic reforms can bring meaningful improvements to public service delivery and stakeholder experience,” LPKP Sarawak said.
