KUCHING: A total of 25 Padawan Sub-District residents received the Sarawak Native Recognition Application System (NRS) certificates in an official ceremony held at the Padawan Sub-District Office here today.

Transport Deputy Minister (Land and Aviation) cum Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said, granting this ‘anak Sarawak’ status is a new step by the government in improving the living standards of the people concerned.

“Children of mixed marriages face difficulties in being recognised as anak Sarawak, but with the amendment to the Sarawak Constitution, the recognition process has now become easier and clearer.

“This measure allows more Sarawakians to receive the rights and privileges they deserve, thus strengthening their position in various social and economic aspects,” he said.

He added that the decision to choose which ethnicity to recognise is the right of the individual, as long as it complies with the provisions of the law that have been set.

The awarding of the NRS certificates is expected to benefit the recipients and ensure that every Sarawakian receives due recognition in the administrative system of the state.
