SERIAN: Serian District will soon undergo major tourism development with six natural attractions selected for upgrading, following funding from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).

The Serian District Council has been tasked with developing these sites, which include Bung Sadong mountain, Rancang Pool Waterfall, the Pesang River in Kampung Pesang, a large cave in Kampung Silabur Mongkos, the hot spring at Kampung Pancor Dayak, and the lake at Kampung Riih Daso.

Chairman of the Serian District Council, Datuk Peter Minos said preparations are underway and the council is waiting for the necessary permits and approvals from relevant agencies before starting work.

“I went to see all the six spots and all are beautiful. After development by the council, they will surely be a big hit for both local and foreign tourists,” said Minos in a statement today (Aug 1).

Rancang Pool Waterfall will be intensively upgraded, while the Pesang River will be improved for eco-tourism activities, and the cave in Kampung Silabur Mongkos will be opened to visitors.

The hot spring in Kampung Pancor Dayak will be further enhanced, meanwhile the lake in Kampung Riih Daso is planned to become a fishing centre and a recreational area.

“We will really focus on the six projects and hope all will be done in the next few years. They mean a lot to us in the council and the people of Serian,” he added.

The initiative falls under the Bung Sadong Tourism Project and highlights Serian’s natural treasures such as mountains, rivers, caves, hot springs and lakes, making the district an attractive destination for tourism growth.
