KUCHING: The revitalisation of Lorong Bayor Bukit 14 and BDC Park highlights Kuching South City Council痴 (MBKS) dedication to transforming neigbourhood parks into inclusive spaces that support family wellbeing and intergenerational interaction.

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng noted that public parks and open spaces play a crucial role in fostering community interaction, healthy lifestyles and environmental sustainability.

The project reflects MBKS proactive efforts in line with its aspirations under the Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) and its mission to become an Age-Friendly City, focusing on the well-being of both the younger and older population.

Through projects like these, MBKS is working towards creating inclusive, friendly, and safe neighbourhoods for all generations,・he said when speaking to reporters after handing over the project site to the contractor at Lorong Bayor Bukit 14 on Tuesday (June 17).

Wee added that the high-impact project, costing nearly RM500,000 for the recreational park at Lorong Bayor Bukit 14, is fully funded by the National Landscape Department.

The project officially commenced on June 11 and are scheduled to be completed in 16 weeks, with expected completion on Oct 1.

Key upgrades include the construction of a new footpath with proper drainage, installation of a children playset, fitness equipment, gazebo, concrete table tennis table, hopscotch game, solar-powered lighting, and new trees and shrubs.

“Interestingly, this time we are also including an open ping pong play element. This is a new feature compared to previous parks.”

Meanwhile, works have also begun to upgrade the Open Space at Lorong F, BDC, with construction starting on June 9.

The project, costing around RM470,000, funded by the National Landscape Department is scheduled for completion in 16 weeks, by Sept 29.

The upgrading works will include a new entrance pavilion and signage, upgraded walkways, modern playsets for children, outdoor fitness equipment for seniors, and the planting of new trees and shrubs to enhance the park greenery and ambiance.

These enhancements aim to make the park more inviting, safe, and accessible for all users, especially children and elderly.

This park has long served the BDC community, and it is our responsibility to ensure that it evolves to meet the growing needs of our children and elderly.
