KUCHING: Cooperation between political parties in Sarawak and Sabah is important to work together on important issues related to the two states.
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) deputy dean Dr Arnold Puyok said, if Sabah and Sarawak are able to put aside political factors, a strong bloc can be created.
“However, currently many political parties from Sabah and Sarawak want to run alone and do not want to work together as a bloc due to political factors.
“In this context, I am not only looking at Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Warisan but in my opinion, what is more important now is for all Sabah and Sarawak political parties to work together, especially on important issues related to the states,” he said.
He said this during the Politik Sabah dan Sarawak Dalam Konteks Hubungan Persekutuan – Negeri, (2008 – 2021) online webinar on today (June 7).
Meanwhile, elaborating on the establishment of the Borneo Alliance which had been raised by PSB President Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh before, Arnold said it involved old and new leaders who had been in one political platform but later split.
“Now they want to be back on one platform … I don’t see what they (the Borneo Alliance) want to highlight at the moment, and how they want to exist as a coalition, but I am worried that this coalition is just an attempt for them,” he said.
