MIRI:  The ‘Skuad Kasih Sayang’ (SKS) from Bekenu and the Social Welfare Department (JKM) extended a helping hand to four families in Kampung Dagang, Sepupok, during a visit yesterday.

The outreach programme was led by the Deputy Minister of Women, Family, Welfare, Community Wellbeing and Childhood Development of Sarawak Datuk Rosey Yunus, accompanied by two JKM officers from Miri.

The initiative, part of an annual effort by the Bekenu SKS, focuses on addressing the welfare needs of vulnerable communities.

“The Bekenu SKS is a group of dedicated women actively involved in improving the well-being of rural communities, particularly in villages and longhouses across the Bekenu area,” said Rosey, who also serves as the Bekenu assemblywoman.

This year’s programme included visits to four families facing significant challenges, including elderly residents requiring care and assistance.

“Our team works with JKM to facilitate applications for welfare support for senior citizens and those eligible for aid. Families with health-related difficulties, particularly those with bedridden members, are also assisted in applying for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) and other support programmes,” she added.

The four families visited were Rosni Mesin, Wahap Jepon, Lani Daut, and Rosinah Mamid, all of whom are dealing with various hardships stemming from health issues.

Councillor Hadijah Sheikh Kassim, leader of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s wing in Bekenu and a key figure in SKS, joined the delegation.

Others present were Penghulu Wan Fauzi, village leaders Juwita and Noh Mat, and members of the SKS team.
