SIBU: The Brooke Drive Neighbourhood Watch Area (KRT Persiaran Brooke) brought joy to the teachers and students of Destiny For Children (DFC) through a celebration held in conjunction with Teachers’ Day and the upcoming Gawai festival on Friday.

The Sibu Division Officer of the National Unity and Integration Department, Jendri Mangku, expressed admiration for DFC’s commitment to providing opportunities for children facing citizenship documentation issues (statelessness).

“Congratulations to DFC for your dedication to creating space and opportunities for these children to learn, grow, and enjoy life just like other children.

“This effort is truly appreciated,” she said at the programme.

She also emphasised to the DFC children that they should not feel inferior due to their citizenship status, but instead, continue to respect their parents and teachers as the foundation for success.

“Sincere efforts and struggles will surely bear fruit,” she added.

Earlier, KRT Persiaran Brooke Chairperson, Melinda Wong Hung, in her welcoming speech, said that the event aimed to strengthen bonds of friendship regardless of religion, race, or background.

She also praised the state government’s initiative in assisting this group to obtain citizenship status.

“We believe that no one chooses to live as a non-citizen.

“The state government’s efforts are highly valued in ensuring that no child is left behind in the development process,” she said.

Also present was DFC’s Principal, Pauline Rogers.
