Neighbours contain house fire in Lopeng

MIRI : A small fire broke out at a house in Desa Pujut, Lopeng, here early this morning (Dec 30) but was already under control by the time firefighters arrived, thanks to swift action by neighbours.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call at 1.24 am reporting a house fire and fire engines from Lopeng and Lutong fire stations were dispatched immediately.

Fire crews arrived at the scene at 1.36 am to find the blaze had been extinguished by residents using tap water.

The fire involved the rear section of the house, measuring approximately 10 by 5 metres, which was being used as a space to keep cats. About 10 per cent of the area was damaged in the incident. No casualties were reported.

Following a safety assessment, firefighters confirmed there was no risk of reignition and no active firefighting operations were required.

The operation was officially concluded at 2.05 am, after which the team returned to their respective stations.
