KUCHING: Sarawak Energy has commissioned a new 11kV power line at Sungai Asap to strengthen electricity supply reliability and support growing demand in the area.

In a post shared on its official communication platforms, Sarawak Energy said the newly energised line allows for load diversion from the existing network, reducing the risk of overloading and potential power interruptions.

The utility provider added that network conditions will continue to be closely monitored, with standby generator sets in place as a contingency measure until the system is fully secured and stabilised.

The project forms part of ongoing mitigation efforts to enhance supply resilience in Sungai Asap.

Sarawak Energy also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, local elected representatives, community leaders and residents for their support in the successful commissioning of the new line.

On a separate post, Sarawak Energy announced the expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with the launch of a new DC Fast Charging (DCFC) station at Sanyan Square, Jalan Lau King Howe, Sibu, developed in collaboration with Gentari.

With the addition of the Sibu DCFC station, the company said Sarawak’s major cities and towns are now linked by a continuous EV charging network, enabling reliable long-distance travel across the state and supporting wider connectivity across Borneo.

The expansion was carried out in collaboration with local authorities, including Sibu Municipal Council, Majlis Daerah Sri Aman, Bintulu Development Authority and Miri City Council, to connect key urban centres across Sarawak.

Sarawak Energy also announced that a charging fee of RM1.40 per kilowatt-hour will be implemented at the Sibu DCFC station effective Friday.
