KUCHING: The state government has identified a new agropolitan area near Lingga, Sri Aman for the state’s food industry.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the federal government had written a letter through the head of the Council of Eminent Persons Tun Daim Zainuddin asking for Sarawak’s favour to help in food production.
“I have agreed and have also identified the 2,000-acre area needed near Lingga, Sri Aman,” Johari said during the launching of Samariang Fiesta at Kampung Lintang near here yesterday.
He added that the state had been emphasising on the food industry.
“For this I have asked Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah to focus and look for new ways in developing the food industry,” he said, adding that it was an example of understanding between the federal government and state government.
“Although we are not in the same party, if it is for the people, we will cooperate with them.
“This is our state government’s way. If things are right, they are right to us but if they are wrong, then they are wrong to us,” he said.
Touching on the issue of grass cutting at federal roads in the state, Johari pointed out that it was the responsibility of the federal government according to the federal constitution and therefore not for the state to bear all the costs.
