KUCHING: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) has unveiled Sarawak’s newest AI-powered Tap & Go Mart, designed to provide a smooth, seamless shopping experience while supporting the state’s smart city lifestyle transformation.

SDEC chief executive officer Datuk Sudarnoto Osman said the mart is integrated with modern technology that simplifies operations for both operators and customers.

“The unmanned mart allows shoppers to simply step in, pick up items, and leave. The only requirement is topping up your digital wallet beforehand. After that, it’s tap, pick, and go.

“The technology behind the store combines AI cameras, smart-shelf sensors, IoT systems, and

machine learning algorithms to identify products picked up and charge customers automatically upon exit.”

Sudarnoto said during the short briefing of the mart at the AI Unmanned Mart launching ceremony at  Baitul Makmur II Building here today.

He added that the mart features smart shelves that detect when items are picked up or returned, while electronic labels enable remote pricing adjustments and promotional bundles.

“This technology allows operators to change prices or run promotions instantly without being on-site, such as afternoon promotions or discounts on fresh products after a certain time.”

Additionally, he said that SDEC also provides a cloud dashboard for retailers to monitor sales analytics, identify fast-moving items, and understand customer purchasing patterns.

“Through this technology, operators can improve operational efficiency, manage inventory more effectively, and gain a comprehensive understanding of market needs.”

He added that the AI mart operates 24/7 without staff, enabling shopping anytime and supporting remote marketing and dynamic pricing.

“Payments are processed seamlessly through the SBOX AI Wallet which can be downloaded both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, eliminating the need for traditional checkout counters.

“The app enables users to top up the digital wallet via credit or debit cards, view real-time balances, and enjoy transparent transaction tracking across all SDEC’s unmanned mart chains.”

Sudarnoto also said that this unmanned mart marks a new chapter in Sarawak’s journey towards smart city living.

“It shows how technology, when applied meaningfully, can make life simpler and more convenient for everyone while supporting our broader goal of building a digital, sustainable future.”
