PADAWAN: Efforts are being made to enhance accessibility to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kambuh with plans for a new bridge to replace the current aging structure across the Biak River.

The existing bridge serves as a vital link for 123 students, 16 teachers, and seven staff members who cross it daily.

Recognising the importance of safe and reliable infrastructure for rural education, Deputy Minister of Transport (Road and Aviation) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil recently visited the school to assess its immediate infrastructure needs and explore solutions to ensure better access for the school community.

“This visit is to see for ourselves the development needs at this school, especially the bridge which is very important for the continuity of education for children in this area,” he said.

According to Dr Jerip, Public Works Department Kuching Division has been instructed to conduct a full assessment for the construction of a new motorable bridge, either in the form of a Bailey bridge or concrete.

In addition, the study also involves the construction of a connecting road, parking and a reservoir to prevent erosion and landslides.

“We have previously allocated RM90,000 for school equipment including new desks. In the long term, we will consider the construction of a multipurpose hall, a field and other facilities that are needed,” he said.

Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, added that the next step depends on the technical report and design from PWD as well as the approval and allocation from the Sarawak government.
