SPAOH: A new health clinic in Spaoh is set to replace its ageing facility following a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the estimated RM36 million project reflects a strong partnership between federal and state-level agencies.
He added that MOH will contribute RM16.5 million, while the remaining cost will be funded by BDDA.
“The site has already been identified and acquired, and compensation has been paid to the landowners. We hope that construction will begin by year-end.
“Next week, we will meet with MOH and Sarawak Health Department Director Dr Veronica Lugah to plan the next steps,” he told reporters after presenting over RM30,000 in study incentives to high-performing students from Bukit Saban constituency.
The incentives were awarded to 13 undergraduates, six diploma students, and three SPM students who achieved outstanding results, including 8As and 9As.
Uggah stressed the urgency of the project as the current clinic is no longer suitable for the growing population in Spaoh sub-district.
In addition, he also shared updates for haemodialysis centres in Spaoh, Beladin, and Kabong, with each centre costing RM5 million and they will be fully funded by BDDA.
“I hope construction of the haemodialysis centre in Spaoh can begin by year-end as well.
“I want it to be completed earlier than the health clinic, as the clinic will require more time due to its scale,” he said.
These healthcare initiatives form part of the broader development agenda under BDDA to improve access to quality medical services in rural parts of Betong Division.
