KOTA PADAWAN: The new Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) office is not just a building but a facility for public use by residents under the jurisdiction of the local authority.

Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the new office is not merely a workplace for council members and PMC staff but will also serve as a facility for the public to carry out various activities.

He said the facility will be equipped with an auditorium and open spaces to host community events and celebrations.

“We will build an auditorium, and we will build open spaces so that residents can use them to conduct their activities.

“When you hold an event at the PMC auditorium, it offers a different experience compared to holding it in a hotel,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the swearing-in ceremony for PMC members, held at its building here today.

Earlier, PMC Chairman Tan Kai said in his speech that the new office is expected to be completed within three years, and is designed to enhance efficiency, sustainability and community-friendliness.

“This office will serve as a catalyst for economic, social and community growth, thus supporting broader development and progress goals,” he said.

Recent reports said that the new PMC office has been proposed in Semenggok, and is currently still in the design stage.

“Although the government has approved RM60 million for the new MPP building, it will take some time before construction can begin,” Tan said.

A 20-acre site at Semenggok, Batu 12 along the Kuching-Serian Road, has been identified for the construction of the new PMC headquarters.

The new office complex will also cater to the tourism sector, considering its strategic location near the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, Borneo Highlands, Rafflesia Park, Biodiversity Park and Anah Rais Longhouse.

The new PMC office will also be equipped with various facilities including a library, auditorium and sports amenities.
