KUCHING: Newly appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, Datuk Fenny Nuli, has pledged to strengthen trade and investment ties with Austria and Slovakia while advancing opportunities that will benefit Malaysia, including Sarawak.
Fenny said the Malaysian Embassy in Vienna stands ready to support any initiatives by the Sarawak Government to expand cooperation with the two European nations in areas of mutual interest.
“As a Malaysian ambassador, I look forward to championing Malaysian issues.
“I will also promote trade and investment between Malaysia and Austria, as well as between Malaysia and Slovakia. Any state that requires our embassy in Vienna to help promote collaborations with these two countries will have our support,” she told a press conference after paying a farewell courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today (July 1).

Fenny said she also discussed potential areas of collaboration involving Sarawak’s interests in Austria and Slovakia during the meeting.
She noted that Austria possesses strong expertise in green hydrogen, water management and other advanced technologies, while Slovakia is recognised for its automotive technology sector.
“These are areas where Malaysia can work together with the two countries, and that was among the matters I discussed with the Premier today,” she said.
Fenny added that she also sought Abang Johari’s advice on issues of importance to both Sarawak and Malaysia in carrying out her diplomatic responsibilities.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Sarawak Government, particularly the Premier, for the support extended to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Sarawak Regional Office during her two-year tenure as its director.
“I would like to thank the Sarawak Government, especially Premier Sarawak, for all the cooperation given to Wisma Putra and my office over the past two years,” she said.
Fenny is appointed as Malaysia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, with concurrent accreditation to the Slovak Republic, and as Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations and other international organisations in Vienna.
A career diplomat with almost three decades of service, she joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997 and has served in Geneva, Poland, Thailand, Belgium, Peru and Austria, besides holding several senior positions at the ministry.
She was Malaysia’s Ambassador to Peru from 2019 to 2023, with concurrent accreditation to Bolivia, Colombia and Panama, before serving as Director of the Sarawak Regional Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Fenny holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Sciences from Universiti Sains Malaysia and a Diploma in Public Administration from INTAN.
She was awarded the Pegawai Bintang Sarawak (PBS) in 2017 and the Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS) in 2025 in recognition of her public service.
