KUALA LUMPUR: National tower runner Soh Wai Ching (pic) carved a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after completing the climb of the 106 floors of the Exchange Tower in under 14 minutes yesterday.

The Selayang-born runner completed the climb involving 2,228 steps to the top of the tower, with a time of 13 minutes 07 seconds (s) in conjunction with National Take the Stairs Day which is celebrated yesterday, the second week of January.

Earlier, MBOR officer Edwin Yeoh Tiong Chin presented the official recognition certificate witnessed by Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching.

“The MBOR time record is 14 minutes and below. If Wai Ching runs more than 14 minutes, it will not be successful.

“Throughout the training here, my personal best time is only around 14 minutes and 20 seconds, so it is slower than today,” he told reporters when met.

Wai Ching announced that he aimed to create five more MBOR records this year in addition to breaking more championship records.

“Now I have one, five more to go, and I will later reveal the next record,” he said.

Meanwhile, Teo congratulated the world’s number one tower runner on his success and hoped that the public could emulate him in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. – BERNAMA
