KUCHING: The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI) has unveiled the Wong Panjai Community Library, a new space dedicated to education, health and community well-being.
Officially launched on December 7, the library is expected to benefit over 600 people in Wong Panjai and six nearby longhouses.
“This library embodies the power of collaboration. By investing in education and skills development, we are laying the foundation for a brighter future for rural communities in Sarawak,” said TSI chairman Datuk John Tenewi Nuek in a statement.
The library, located near Tadika Kemas Wong Panjai, houses over 1,000 books and will host various programmes, including health workshops and skill-building sessions.
“More than just books, this library is a reservoir of knowledge.
“It’s a place for life-long learning and social interaction,” it added.
The library’s launch was marked by activities like a food innovation workshop, health awareness programme, and women and children’s well-being workshop.
The Gerempung Indu (Women’s Bureau of Wong Panjai) will manage the library, with ongoing support from TSI and its partners.
Key contributors to the project include Sarawak Energy, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kuching.
