TEBEDU: Eight families from Kampung Krusen Siu, who lost their homes in a fire last year, will soon have a new longhouse, expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Tebedu assemblyman, Dr. Simon Sinang Bada, said RM560,000 had been allocated through the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to the Serian Division Disaster Management Committee for the construction of the new longhouse.
“The first step is to clear and prepare the site of the old longhouse before the tender process for construction begins,” he said during a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony today.
Dr. Simon also announced that RM59,000 had been allocated through the Minor Rural Project (MRP) for site preparation, which is set to begin this week.
The preparation is expected to take one to two months, depending on weather conditions.
Once the tender process is completed and a contractor is appointed, construction of the new longhouse will commence.
Dr. Simon emphasised the importance of expediting the project to ensure that all affected families can move into their new homes this year.
“We hope this initiative will help the fire victims rebuild their lives and provide them with a safe and comfortable place to live in,” he added.
