KUCHING: The Regenerative X Association will be launching the Green Glow Night Market, a pilot initiative aimed at transforming Jalan China and Upper China Street into a vibrant weekend hub.
The monthly night market, which begins on Oct 10, will run from 6pm to 11pm every Friday and Saturday.
Regenerative X Association president Prestly Ng said the initiative drew inspiration from successful weekend markets in other regions that have become major cultural and tourism landmarks.
“This initiative aims to establish a new attraction for Kuching,” he said in a statement.
He added that the Green Glow Night Market is envisioned as more than just a bazaar.
“It will serve as a platform to empower local youth, artists, creative talents and entrepreneurs by providing space to showcase their work to the public.”
Through collaborations with studios, schools, universities and NGOs, he hopes to foster a new generation of sustainable businesses and creative expression.
The market will also emphasise environmental sustainability by promoting waste management, climate change awareness and eco-friendly practices among vendors and visitors.
Visitors can look forward to stalls offering handmade crafts, unique Sarawak-made products, local dishes, street food and healthier food options.
Dedicated waste segregation stations will also be set up to promote responsible waste disposal and climate education.
The association is inviting vendors, entrepreneurs, performers, artisans, craftspeople, youth creatives, eco-conscious product sellers and healthy food vendors to participate in the market.
The initiative is supported by TVS and SarawakFocus as media collaborators.
