KUCHING: The new Sarawak Premier’s Office Complex in Petra Jaya, popularly dubbed the “White House of Sarawak,” has been scheduled for official launch tonight (Aug 4) by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The inauguration coincides with the 75th birthday of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Construction of the complex began in January 2023, aimed at providing a safer, more efficient administrative space for the state’s top leadership. The facility is equipped with advanced technology and the latest security systems, including a government data centre.

Scheduled for full completion in 2025, the project spans more than two years. The main three-storey building is flanked by two supporting blocks, combining modern architecture with local cultural elements.

The complex will serve as the central hub for Sarawak’s state administration. Strategically located on elevated terrain in Petra Jaya, the building sits close to the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex.

While the building’s official name has yet to be announced, the public has affectionately referred to it as the “White House of Sarawak” due to its design resemblance to the residence of the US President in Washington, DC.

Once fully operational, the complex is expected to become the state’s main centre of governance and a symbol of Sarawak’s administrative progress under the leadership of the Premier.
