KUCHING: A new temporary relief centre (PPS) was opened in Kota Samarahan this evening as flood conditions showed gradual easing in parts of Kuching, with overall evacuation numbers declining by early evening.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the PPS at Dewan Suarah Kota Samarahan was activated at 4:00 pm following flooding in Kampung Plaie.
As of 6:00 pm, 13 evacuees from three families have registered at the centre.
This brings the number of PPS in operation to seven, accommodating flood victims across southern Sarawak.
Meanwhile, evacuation figures at other relief centres recorded notable declines.
PPS Dewan R. Piang in Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, which earlier housed the highest number of evacuees, saw its population drop to 242 people from 54 families.
PPS Dewan Serbaguna Taman Malihah also recorded a reduction, now accommodating 174 evacuees from 49 families.
Meanwhile, PPS Dewan Masyarakat Satok remained unchanged with 203 evacuees from 55 families, while PPS Dewan Surau Nurul Najhin in Stapok continued to shelter 56 people from 18 families.
Slight increases were reported at PPS Surau Ar-Rahman in Kampung Sungai Batu, which housed 65 evacuees from 15 families, and PPS SK Chung Hua Sejijak, which recorded 37 people from 11 families.
Overall, as of 6:00 pm, a total of 790 evacuees from 205 families were being housed at seven PPS operating in Kuching and Kota Samarahan.
