SARIKEI: The completion of the Sarikei-Tanjung Manis road and Batang Rajang bridge has become a game-changer for Sarikei and Meradong, triggering a surge in economic activity and drawing a steady influx of visitors to the region.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, hailed the new infrastructure as a vital catalyst for growth, crediting the Premier’s leadership for prioritising balanced rural and urban development.

“The road project, officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in May, has already begun delivering tangible benefits to local communities,” he said while expressing his heartfelt appreciation to the Premier for his unwavering commitment to Sarikei’s progress.

He said this in his speech during the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) flag-raising ceremony in conjunction with the 66th anniversary of SUPP Sarikei Branch at the N.45 Repok Service Centre on Wednesday.

He also thanked SUPP members for their steadfast support and trust since he was first elected as their representative, reinforcing his dedication to serving the people of Repok.

The ceremony began with the arrival of party members and Huang, followed by the party anthem and the flag-raising.

A celebratory cake-cutting ceremony was also held to mark the branch’s 66th anniversary, culminating in a spirited triple chant of ‘Sa’ati’ – a symbol of unity and party pride.
