SIBU: The road upgrading works at Rumah Adin Anak Jawa, Sungai Engkalat, here have been completed, with the final inspection conducted yesterday by the relevant authorities.
The project, costing approximately RM75,000, was funded under the Special Rural Tansformation Project (RTP) Fund approved by Premier Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, aimed at improving essential public infrastructures in the Bawang Assan area.
According to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch Chairman, Councillor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, the road at the longhouse had deteriorated over time.
He stated that the issue was first raised in April this year by the local Iban community paramount chief, Temenggong Stanley Gramong.
Previously, Lau together with Stanley, engineers from the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), and Councillor Rory Wong, had conducted several on-site inspections and reviewed the condition of each access road in the longhouse area to determine suitable solutions.
“We identified and marked all sections that required upgrading, after which SMC’s engineering department prepared the cost estimation. The proposal was subsequently approved, and the project was officially handed over to the contractor for implementation in early September,” Lau said.
He added that throughout the construction period, the longhouse chief and Stanley actively engaged with the contractor to ensure smooth progress.
The upgraded road has now significantly improved daily accessibility and safety for the residents.
Lau reiterated that the team would continue working closely with Stanley to address community infrastructure and welfare needs.
“We will uphold our commitment to serving the people by seeking the most appropriate solutions and striving to create a safer and more convenient living environment for the residents of Bawang Assan,” he added.
