BINTANGOR: A new road built under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) at Rumah Panjang Landing, Sungai Gemuan Bintangor, will provide residents with an alternative route to overcome frequent flooding on the old road.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the RM50,000 project, approved by the Sarawak government, involves cementing a 190-metre stretch linking Rumah Panjang Landing to Rumah Jawi.

“When completed, the road will not only bring convenience to the residents but also serve as a safer and more comfortable alternative compared to the existing road which is often submerged during heavy rain or high tide,” he said when witnessing the RTP Meradong project site handover ceremony at Rumah Panjang Landing on Monday (Aug 18).

He urged the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarikei division to ensure the appointed contractor complies with the required processes and specifications.

Ding commended the detailed planning and reminded that the project must be completed within three months, from Aug 18 to Nov 19.

He added that the RTP reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to improve rural infrastructure, benefitting residents of Rumah Panjang Landing and Rumah Jawi.
