KUCHING: A proposed new road linking Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa directly to the Emart roundabout has emerged as a key development priority aimed at easing persistent traffic congestion in the Tupong area.
Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the proposed project is crucial in addressing one of the main concerns faced by residents of heavy traffic flow.
“I have submitted the request and will continue to follow up to ensure the project is approved for the benefit of the people in N.6 Tupong,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters at his Aidilfitri open house at Dewan Hikmah today.
He said that while Jalan Matang has undergone continuous upgrading and widening, such efforts alone may not fully resolve congestion issues without diversifying traffic routes.
Fazzrudin, who is also Tupong assemblyman, added that development efforts in Tupong will continue to be carried out progressively to ensure the needs of the people are consistently met.
According to him, development in the area is guided by three key approaches: introducing new facilities where needed, monitoring existing amenities, and upgrading ageing infrastructure.
Also present at the event were Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Datuk Ibrahim Baki and Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, along with heads of departments.
