KUCHING: The Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS), together with AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd, is currently working with the Malaysian Ministry of Transport to draft new terms and conditions for the Rural Air Services (RAS) agreement.

Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the new agreement will also ensure that the Federal Government continues to provide subsidies for the service.

He said the effort also involves relevant federal agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of the RAS service.

“This matter is currently in progress. We are taking these steps to ensure that air services to rural areas in the state, including Sabah, can continue without interruption.

“So, the terms and conditions for the new RAS agreement are currently under discussion, and we have already submitted our proposals,” he said when met by the media today (May 21).

Elaborating further, he explained that continuous efforts are needed as there are new terms and conditions with AirBorneo, considering changes in routes, coverage areas, and other factors.

“Therefore, we need to work closely with the Malaysian Ministry of Transport and relevant agencies to implement this,” he said.
