A proposal to construct a new Sarikei Health Clinic (Type 2) will be submitted under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, said the proposed facility will be built on Lot 1120, Block 33, Sarikei Land District.
“It will also house the Divisional Health Office and Divisional Pharmacy Office to enhance healthcare management and accessibility in the area,” he said.
Tiang was responding to a question raised by Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii (GPS-Repok) during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
He added that the health clinic would be designed to accommodate between 500 and 800 patients daily, addressing the growing healthcare demand in Sarikei.
Services under this facility will include outpatient care, maternal and child health, laboratory, radiology, dental, rehabilitation, and pharmacy services.
Tiang acknowledged that the existing Sarikei Health Clinic currently treats 600 to 800 patients per day, exceeding its intended capacity.
He noted that an RM800,000 allocation in 2023 had allowed for repairs and upgrades at the clinic to help ease congestion.
“Improving services at Julau Health Clinic and Pakan Health Clinic is among the steps taken to reduce patient overload in Sarikei,” he said.
He said these include the placement of permanent doctors, regular visits by family medicine specialists, and radiology services at Pakan since 2021.
