KUCHING: The official name of the new administrative office for the state government in Petra Jaya has yet to be decided.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the complex is not similar to the White House, the official residence of the President of the United States.

He added that the complex is still under construction, which was built to enhance security for state administration.

“We are not America. It is just an office recommended by the security authorities.

“Wisma Bapa Malaysia has security access that is too accessible, so they need a more secure office because all government secrets are kept there,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) 16th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Saturday.

As for when the new complex will open, the Premier deferred the decision to the Sarawak State Secretary.
“I leave it to the State Secretary,” he said.

Previously, Abang Johari said that the facility would be state-of-the-art, incorporating advanced security features and functioning as a data centre for the Sarawak government.

“This is necessary because Wisma Bapa Malaysia has become a public building with (unrestricted access). Therefore, the Cabinet will have a new building,” he said.
