SARIKEI: New students from five schools in the Meradong area have received school bags, uniforms and shoes for the school year from Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

The initiative, organised by the Sarikei Service Centre, saw the distribution carried out in stages at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St Augustine, SK Abang Amin, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kai Chung, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) (C) Kai Chung, and SK Bandar Bintangor.

Gung Chiu Kion officiated at the handover on behalf of Huang, who is Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman, at the respective locations on Monday (May 19).

Speaking at the event, Gung said the initiative is part of an ongoing effort to ease the financial burden on parents ahead of the new school year.

It also aims to ensure students return to school well-prepared, properly equipped, and in high spirits.

He noted that Huang has placed strong emphasis on education and student welfare since being elected, stressing that students in both Meradong and Repok deserve equal support, including school essentials.
