MERADONG: The construction of the new iron bridge across Sungai Mador at Batu 8 Jalan KJD here was completed ahead of schedule, providing earlier access and safer connectivity for nearby communities.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the project reflected the state government’s ongoing commitment to delivering safer, modern and resilient rural infrastructure.
“The early completion also showed the effectiveness of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) in Meradong and the strong coordination between government agencies, contractors and local residents during implementation,” he said during the project handover ceremony on Wednesday.
The RM250,000 project was carried out under the RTP to improve basic amenities and strengthen rural road networks.
It was awarded through the balloting method, with work scheduled from September 18, 2025, to March 17, 2026.
However, with close monitoring by technical agencies and the contractor’s commitment, the bridge was completed earlier than planned, on December 10, 2025.
The new structure, built using an 18-metre I-Beam design with a four-metre width, was intended to support vehicle access and the transport of agricultural produce by local farmers.
The replacement was necessary as the previous bridge had become unsafe, especially during heavy rain and rising river levels.
About five longhouses in the Sungai Mador area rely on the crossing as their main route to pepper farms, oil palm smallholdings and fruit orchards.
The upgraded facility is expected to ease daily movements and boost local economic activities through better access to farmlands and markets.
